This is a mixing desk, it's used to control the sounds which are played during the radio show. It allows for the people in the studio to be able to control the level of sounds when the radio is airing. This means that if they're playing music in or out they can fade it in and out and therefore allows for a better radio experience when trying to air a show. We can see it being used here to control the different levels of sound so that the radio broadcaster can make people seem like they're talking at different levels. This hardware would be used by the radio broadcasters whenever they're trying to fade in different audios of people talking, when someone may be leaving the set their audio would be slid down by the people who are operating the mixing desk which allows the audio to sound more authentic.
A digital cart wall is a digital player that has a log of different sound's lined up so that whilst the radiobroadcast is live. Using this is very good for the broadcast as it allows them to easily access stored sounds that they commonly wish to play meaning that they don't have to seek out the sound and then get everything ready. For example, when a radio broadcast is starting they may use the digital cart wall to play a noise which is their intro song and then can control that they've queued using the mixing desk. Therefore, allowing the radio broadcast to be much more fluent with what they play and makes the listening experience much better for the people watching. A digital cart wall may be used by the broadcasters when they're playing their introduction song. They would press the already loaded audio on the digital cart wall and it would then play whilst they start the show so that they don't have to load up the audio whilst the show is going. Not only that, but it helps organise all of the sound effects they would usually use.
