Focus Group and Analysis

 

Question One: What is your opinion on the narrative of the first episode?

Overall, there was a positive review of the episodes narrative. Meaning there doesn't have to be any changes made to the lines I've reordered. The only issue brought up here was that there may be issues understanding exactly whats happening due to this being the very first episode, however they did understand that not exactly everything would be explain and therefore they agreed that it was a good narrative for the episode with a good cliff hanger that therefore would tie into the next episode.

Question Two: How would you you describe the episode?

Overall they described the episode to be "Mysterious" which is good as that is the general atmosphere I am trying to create in this first episode, building a lot of enigmas to make sure the audience are questioning what is happening with the investigation. Not only this, but they then described it to be "Intriguing" and allowed for the audience to be engaged through the episode which is a positive. Therefore reinforcing that the actual narrative of the episode is good.

Question Three: Is there anything about the first draft you liked in particular?

The main positive they all said about the episode was the sound effects used, the door sounds effects that I recorded and played and also the walking sound effects I recorded were an overall positive and allowed for the audience to understand what was happening with the narrative. Not only this, but they also said that the intro and outdo music were good and gave a good gateway into the episode, allowing for the audience to have a suspension of disbelief into the episode.

Question Four: Is there anything about the editing that you liked in particular?

The overall answer was that they liked the fact that the editing made the conversations flow. By editing it so that there are no gaps and allowing for the conversation to sound natural is made the narrative much better. Not only this, but they also said it added continuity to the episode, therefore I do not need to do much for the editing in the final cut.

Question Five: Is there anything about the first draft you have a particular issue with?

The main issue they stated was that the actual audio wasn't good enough. This can be easily fixed in editing and therefore makes the audio much easier to listen to. Other than that however they said it was good and there isn't really much needing to be changed.

Question Six: Is there anything about the editing you don't like?

No one said they had any issues, this is a great positive as I will not have to change any of the editing aspects I have done.

Question Seven: Do the intro and outro music fit the episode?

They all said that the intro and outro music used do in fact fit the episode very well,  and allow for the audience to become suspended in the disbelief of the episode. They didn't have any complaints with this and therefore allows for the audience to have a positive entry into the episode.

Question Eight: Does the introduction to the episode provide an appropriate summery?

They said that overall it was a very good introduction. It allows the audience to gain a general understanding of what they are listening to while not spoiling everything that happens in the episode. They said not to change it and therefore I'll leave it.

Question Nine: Is there anything you would want to see changed for the final edit?

The only issues they had with the episode they would like to see changed is the audio, they said to make it clearer and therefore remove any back ground noises. As well as also making sure there are fades added to the audio to make the narrative make more sense as they move around, this would help to make the actual narrative of the episode much easier to understand as the noise flows together in a way.

Overall Feedback Analysis

Overall, this feedback was very help for me in going into my final editing stages. This is because it allows for me to have a general idea on how I'm going to need to edit my audio so that its not picking up any background noise and using the feedback that I got i'm able to gather where the people watching were able to hear background noise. 

Not only this, but the feedback also said that I edit the audio to make it sound more natural and therefore this allows me to use the feedback to find areas in the audio where I'm able to make the audio sound more natural with things fading in and out and people leave the room.
